Dynaudio and Volvo
First class audio entertainment is a Volvo tradition: Not only was Volvo the first car maker ever to implement a Dolby Pro Logic surround system in a car, but it was also the very first to ask a loudspeaker specialist to develop a genuine, factory-fitted High-End Sound System. In 1997, Volvo found this partner and the resulting 10-speaker Dynaudio Sound System in the first-generation Volvo C70 was soon regarded as one of the finest automotive sound systems available at that time. In 2001, the C70 was awarded the "Best Car Stereo System" accolade by the American luxury lifestyle publication "Robb Report" for having the best factory-fitted sound system.
The first-generation Volvo S80 limousine followed soon after to bring Dynaudio sound quality to the luxury saloon class for the first time. In 2006, Volvo released the successor to the C70. Like the car, the new Volvo C70 Premium Sound System surpassed the benchmark set by its predecessor. To set such new standards, highly advanced Dolby Pro Logic II digital Surround processor technology and unprecedented amplification power of up to 910 Watts, were mated to the latest generation of Dynaudio loudspeakers. Models like the second generation XC90, the compact C30, second generation S40 and V50, the XC70, the second-generation S80 and the XC60 followed soon after.
In late 2010 the Chinese car maker Geely has signed a deal to buy Volvo from US car company Ford. As a consequence, all Volvo cars from model year 2010/2011 onwards will not be availble with a Dynaudio Premium Sound System.
